Well after the events of last week, we were ready to get started this week to see if we could get things to improve. And guess what, they did.
So Wednesday we went out to visit one of our investigators and they accepted the invitation to be baptized April 4th. So, the story about this family: we received them as a reference from the English Elders and started to teach them. Their names are Roberto, Yolanda, Robertito (Jr.) and Kadia. Oh it's just so exciting!
So on Sunday we had given Robertito a blessing, and when we went to visit them on Wednesday he told us that when we gave him the blessing he felt a warmth enter his head and spread throughout his entire body and he was better the next day. Usually when things like this happen we ask the parents what they think, but before we could ask; Yolanda said that she knew that it wasn’t us that healed him, but that Christ had healed her son.
It was so cool and she is trying to get Sundays off so that she can go to church and whatnot even before we talked about it. She just told us that it’s what the Lord wants and that if that means trying to find another job she will!
Ok, Thursday we went tracting (knocking on peoples door to share a short message to spark interest) and we came across a man named Simon. He and his wife have been 7th days (7 Day Adventists) for about 6 years and just wanted to talk. So, we left them a scripture and had an appointment for the next day.
So we get there and almost immediately they started to bash (argue the scriptures). It was interesting, his wife kept telling us that we were good people but that we only kept 9 of the 10 commandments, because we don’t worship on Saturday. Then we discussed the Bible and its correctness and she claimed that it was put together by the Jews and wouldn’t listen to us when we were trying to say that is has a lot of the truth, but even in the bible it mentions books by prophets that aren’t in the Bible. And now the best part, when we asked her to read 1 Corinthians 15:40-42 she didn't really understand it. So she got her clear word Bible and read from it and it made even less sense. But, we left with a prayer and told them that we were more than willing to come and help them with anything they needed and they were very appreciative.
(Dad I don’t know what of this you feel should go on my blog, so feel free to edit and revise; but I thought the kids might like to hear about my battle with this lady)
Now for the cherry to top off the week, so our Branch Mission Leader got baptized about a year ago, without his wife. He is very active and has just left her alone so as not to strain his marriage. Well, we have been having FHE with them for the last month or so and she has been very involved and has actually been coming to Church with the rest of the family. Well yesterday we went over and helped Hno Garibay (the mission leader) hang his new LCD TV on his wall. Actually I helped, Elder Chavez. . .well he's less than helpful when it comes to things like that he's a great guy but isn't the kind you want helping with things. He tends to break more things than he fixes lol) So I was doing that and he started to talk to Hna Garibay one on one on the other side of the room and after settling some of her fears and questions she said that she wants to get baptized. So we have her planned for April 4th as well :) hopefully I’ll come back to this area when they go through the temple in a year and get sealed.
[Couper’s letter just ends here. Sometimes this boy is just in too much of a hurry to get on to the next thing.]
